If you want to start blogging, do it on Blogger.com, a popular platform for beginners due to its ease of use. Blogger is a free blog hosting service by Google, the search engine king.
Monetizing a blog can be a rewarding endeavor, but it requires careful planning and consistent effort. To get inspired, see top blogs and bloggers earning US$40K and up here.
I haven't monetized my blog "Passionately M". Perhaps when I reach my 20,000 views. As of this writing, it shows 8,300 views. (I am not promoting my blog aggressively so most of the views are organic as I share my posts only with a handful of relatives and friends.)
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to monetize your blog:
Step 1: Choose Your Niche
Select a niche you are passionate about and that has a potential audience. It's easier to monetize a blog with a dedicated following. See some niche ideas here. (I don't have a specific niche at the moment. My subjects are random thoughts and will see where these all will lead me. I just want to get them out there.)
According to Neil Pattel, one of top influencers of the web,
Don’t try to plan everything out to the very last detail. I’m a big believer in just getting it out there: create a minimal viable product or website, launch it, and get feedback.
Step 2: Set Up Your Blog on Blogger.com
Create an engaging and visually appealing blog using Blogger.com. Choose a clean, easy-to-navigate template that suits your niche. (I choose this one, Notable Pink*, which is simple, which mirrors me. The fonts are few so I just chose ~Dancing Script~ that expresses my 'passion' and the color close to peach as it this fruit is symbolic to me. When I read it on my small iPhone, it loads quickly, and it is also easily readable, even for elderly people. I always insert quotations, and I love how it is highlighted in this theme.)
Step 3: Produce High-Quality Content
Consistently create informative, valuable, and original content. As for word count, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Aim for at least 1,000 words per blog post, to provide in-depth information and improve SEO.
Step 4: Optimize for SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Learn about SEO techniques to rank higher in search engine results. Use relevant keywords, optimize images, and ensure your blog loads quickly.
Step 5: Build an Audience
Promote your blog on social media, engage with your audience, and encourage them to subscribe to your newsletter or follow you on social platforms. (I haven't done this as I am testing on organic views.)
Step 6: Monetization Strategies
Now, let's explore various monetization methods:
a. Google AdSense: Sign up for Google AdSense to display ads on your blog. You earn money when visitors click on these ads.
b. Affiliate Marketing: Promote relevant products or services through affiliate programs. Earn a commission for each sale made through your unique affiliate links.
c. Sponsored Posts: Partner with brands in your niche for sponsored content. Write or review their products/services and get paid for it.
d. Sell Digital Products: Create and sell e-books, courses, templates, or any digital products related to your niche.
e. Offer Services: If you're an expert in your niche, offer consulting, coaching, or other services.
f. Membership or Subscription Model: Provide exclusive content to subscribers for a monthly fee,
g. Donations/Patronage: Ask your loyal readers for support through platforms like Patreon or Ko-fi.
h. Merchandise: Sell branded merchandise related to your blog or niche.
Step 7: Track and Optimize
Monitor your blog's performance with tools like Google Analytics. Analyze what is working and what is not, then adjust your strategies accordingly.
Step 8: Stay Consistent
Maintain a consistent blogging schedule. Aim to publish at least 2-4 high-quality blog posts per month. Specific days and times depend on your audience's behavior; analyze when they are most active and adjust accordingly.
Step 9: Network and Learn
Connect with other bloggers in your niche, attend webinars, and read industry-related books and blogs to continually improve your skills.
Step 10: Legal and Financial Considerations
Ensure you comply with all legal requirements, such as disclosing affiliate relationships and paying taxes on your earnings.
The blogging landscape is dynamic, so it is essential to stay updated with the latest trends and successful bloggers in your specific niche for inspiration.
Monetizing a blog takes time and effort. It may not generate substantial income immediately, but with dedication and persistence, a profitable blog can be built over time.
