What Will You Do with AED10M?

A Filipina won the mega raffle prize of AED10M (US$2,722,422 or PhP141,077,259)  at Big Ticket Abu Dhabi on 26 August 2019.  For sure our blessed kabayan saw many fireworks in heaven! Congratulations to her!

If I were to win that amount, I would do these --
  1. Give 10% to churches and charitable organizations;
  2. Give 5% each to my three (3) children and mother;
  3. Feed 2020 people to welcome the Year 2020;
  4. Start a business center here that will empower start-ups and agri-business in the Philippines;
  5. Invest in condominium units and apartments to be rented out;
  6. Support Big Ticket Abu Dhabi by buying tickets every month;
  7. Pay all debts and enjoy financial freedom;
  8. Give tokens of appreciation (anything gold from Dubai) to human angels who helped me in my darkest days;
  9. Buy life/health insurance, and;
  10. Save for retirement days.
To win dream BigTicket AED12M for 3 October 2019 raffle draw, one has to buy a ticket for AED500 or if you buy two, you get another one for free. There are those who share in the cost of ticket and when it wins they share in the raffle prize.  There are also chances to win BMW and Land Rover cars. (Read more here.)

It is interesting to note that there is also the Submit Story contest sponsored by the same entity, and winning is based on public voting. The website says "Dear Big Ticket Season 2 - Submit your story narrating your hopes and dreams on www.dearbigticket.ae for a chance to see it come to life."

I hope there will be contests that will reward brilliant ideas of contestants with the aim to make a difference in the lives of people who feel they are stuck, less productive or need improvement so they can feel their worth and earn what they deserve to get. The contests I have in mind will not be subject to public voting but on their actual merits. Those without time on social media and less influence cannot win, or those with less population per nationality will have a slim chance to make it if it is based on public voting.

What about if prizes for brilliant ideas are business packages with cash seeds?

Helping people to be productive and earn money they deserve will result in improved spending which will help propel economic growth, and will contribute to peace and order.

Investing in the empowerment of people who spend for things they need to survive and thrive helps the suppliers and providers of different products and services. It is like winning millions.

The no. 4 in my list -- start a business center that will empower start-ups -- is aligned to this.

In Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone, the BusinessWomen Package, the first-of-its-kind product in the UAE designed exclusively to encourage more women into business was launched. The investment starts at AED6,200 with installment plan options, which includes a free zone license, shared workstation, and support services. (Source: Emirates247.com) In the near future, hopefully, there will be packages like this in mainland Dubai.

Ten percent (10%) of AED10M is AED1M which can help 160 women start their businesses with AED6,250 each. If I would win in the raffle draw with the same prize, I would be willing to do that in cooperation with charitable organizations.

For now, I passionately magnetize good energies. It is exactly like winning -- winning over negativity.

"Wasting of Women's Talents Must Cease"

Here I am in a four-cornered room, thinking of many things that I can do considering my talents, but I cannot utilize to the fullest due to some obstacles which are not just in the mind but real. I am woman -- I know I have a power inside me yet I feel vulnerable. There is an interesting article published in Gulf News, "In the Middle East, Momentum for Women Must Pick Up Speed" written by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, dated 31 May 2018. Very timely, indeed, that I saw this article few minutes back. I am inspired to read similar write-ups promoting advocacy on importance of empowering women by giving them solid support. Can we quantify wasted women's talents? Maybe we can in terms of lost opportunities. Or can we enumerate wasted women's talents if we cannot quantify them? There are women who are full-time mothers and housewives, either by choice or by tradition or both. We know that being so is indeed a tiring unpaid job for many women. For some they

Of Ginger-Lemon Water, and A/C Off

  And so I am now again drinking a lot of hot lemon tea with ginger. It will help improve my health immunity .  WebMD.com says, " Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants, which both have immunity-boosting properties. Ginger also has immunity-boosting properties and can guard against some bacteria." Am coughing when my back is sweating. The air conditioner is switched off again. If you are in the Gulf area, even if it is December it is still hot. There are times when it is even hotter inside my partitioned room with a window facing the sun, no building near ours to block the scorching heat -- than the actual temperature outside. I have a temperature app in my mobile phone and I regularly check it. When I switch on the air conditioner, somebody else switches it off. (I remember when we transferred to the our previous flat and I was told that the A/C was centralized, 24/7 on. I was grateful because the heat of human bodies, the lights, their gadgets -- laptops and m

'Hotelcation' and More

My youngest daughter surprised me with the good news that she was allowed to go on Eid vacation for some days. She badly needed rest and relaxation for a work-life balance. It was very hot here in the UAE when we got blissfully reunited at 2 PM.  It was Eid so most hotels nearby were either fully booked, or if not, their room rate boards showed AED800/day +/-. My frugal daughter stepped back when she saw 'towering' figures. A I watched my Buninay eating halohalo in our meeting place, a restaurant serving Filipino foods, I held my tears back. She ordered 'mixed-with-everything' fried rice, grilled squid and  kinilaw  (raw fish with vinegar, chili and chopped onions).  Memories of her childhood flooded in my mind. How time flies! My then-baby-who-is-now-a-lady wanted to spoil me. Felt truly blessed beyond words. We hopped to Seattle's Best in the mall near the mosque. While indulging myself with my favorite Cinnabon bites and strawberry smoothies, and my ol
