Courage: The Road to Happiness

There is another reason for unhappy people trapped by unfavorable circumstances due to residency issues, to be happy in the UAE. Another month is given to amnesty seekers to rectify their status so it means there is a period until 31 December 2018 to do so, making it a total of five (5) months.

The leniency is a clear mirror of walking the talk to celebrate the legacy of the founding father of the country, Sheikh Zayed, and in observance of the Year of Tolerance. This is a way also to reduce the number of law violators by addressing specific roots of challenges faced by individuals affecting families and communities.

This is a stimulus of the government to the concerned people to have the courage to step up and do something with the given chances, time and tolerance to achieve peace and happiness. True, according to Thucydides,
"The secret to happiness is freedom... and the secret to freedom is courage."
How can one be happy when he is not free to do what he wants to do, to live his dreams? And he cannot be free if he always has fears inside him. Many of us get stuck in life because of fears. It is normal to have fears, but it not normal to live in fears for a long time. Something must be done to deal with it.

As of 29 November 2018, Gulf News reports that Philippine Consul-General Paul Raymund Cortes says that "the consulate is willing and able to assist and guide amnesty seekers with the bounced cheque or rental disputes". It is clarified that legal assistance can be extended, but debts cannot be paid from the Filipino taxpayers' money.

As per the same article, as of 29 November 2018, 7,398 Filipinos were granted amnesty, 65% of whom decided to stay on a job-seeker visa, valid for six (6) months, while 2,732 amnesty seekers were repatriated. For the latter, the Philippine government generously extended support in terms of paying exit fees, absconding fees, air tickets and cash assistance of US$100 each.

This 65% rate obviously shows that many overseas Filipinos who are amnesty seekers, still want to stay in the UAE, restart their lives and restore whatever is lost.

The honorable Philippine consul general encouraged those with problems including bank cases to consult with them so that workable strategies can be planned and acted upon swiftly.

I designed a simple infographics on how to clear bank cases based on the same write-up and just inserted other possible options to pay the banks (number 3 below) --

It takes courage to takes initial steps for life transformation, but if we do not go to the side opposite fears, we block the road to freedom, which is the quick major access road to happiness.

Many, many things around are changing for the better. I hope that every single day, many lives will not be wasted because of fears. Let us passionately metamorphosize to who we are supposed to be and become.

Can we do something for 62 days? It takes more than two (2) months to form a habit. I made it 62 to get a sum of my favorite number, 8, infinity.

Please get a blank notebook. The first page must contain your picture with your own handwriting:

"The secret to happiness is freedom... and the secret to freedom is courage. -Thucydides"

Identify what is blocking you to happiness. What are your fears and how will you strategize to conquer those fears? How will you have the courage to do so?

Write Day # and date on every page, draw a smiley icon, insert your favorite quotation on courage, and draw something related to that.

You deserve to be happy.  Have courage, be free and be happy!

"Wasting of Women's Talents Must Cease"

Here I am in a four-cornered room, thinking of many things that I can do considering my talents, but I cannot utilize to the fullest due to some obstacles which are not just in the mind but real. I am woman -- I know I have a power inside me yet I feel vulnerable. There is an interesting article published in Gulf News, "In the Middle East, Momentum for Women Must Pick Up Speed" written by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, dated 31 May 2018. Very timely, indeed, that I saw this article few minutes back. I am inspired to read similar write-ups promoting advocacy on importance of empowering women by giving them solid support. Can we quantify wasted women's talents? Maybe we can in terms of lost opportunities. Or can we enumerate wasted women's talents if we cannot quantify them? There are women who are full-time mothers and housewives, either by choice or by tradition or both. We know that being so is indeed a tiring unpaid job for many women. For some they

Of Ginger-Lemon Water, and A/C Off

And so I am now again drinking a lot of hot lemon tea with ginger. It will help improve my health immunity .  WebMD.com says, " Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants, which both have immunity-boosting properties. Ginger also has immunity-boosting properties and can guard against some bacteria." Am coughing when my back is sweating. The air conditioner is switched off again. If you are in the Gulf area, even if it is December it is still hot. There are times when it is even hotter inside my partitioned room with a window facing the sun, no building near ours to block the scorching heat -- than the actual temperature outside. I have a temperature app in my mobile phone and I regularly check it. When I switch on the air conditioner, somebody else switches it off. (I remember when we transferred to the our previous flat and I was told that the A/C was centralized, 24/7 on. I was grateful because the heat of human bodies, the lights, their gadgets -- laptops and m

'Hotelcation' and More

My youngest daughter surprised me with the good news that she was allowed to go on Eid vacation for some days. She badly needed rest and relaxation for a work-life balance. It was very hot here in the UAE when we got blissfully reunited at 2 PM.  It was Eid so most hotels nearby were either fully booked, or if not, their room rate boards showed AED800/day +/-. My frugal daughter stepped back when she saw 'towering' figures. A I watched my Buninay eating halohalo in our meeting place, a restaurant serving Filipino foods, I held my tears back. She ordered 'mixed-with-everything' fried rice, grilled squid and  kinilaw  (raw fish with vinegar, chili and chopped onions).  Memories of her childhood flooded in my mind. How time flies! My then-baby-who-is-now-a-lady wanted to spoil me. Felt truly blessed beyond words. We hopped to Seattle's Best in the mall near the mosque. While indulging myself with my favorite Cinnabon bites and strawberry smoothies, and my ol
