Empowering Widows: A Journey from Loss to Resilience

My husband died in 2020.  He was 54, two (2) months away from his 55th birthday. I was a widow at 55 years old. I thought I was used to it as he was a sailor since 1991 and I have been an overseas Filipino worker since December 2005. There were many times when we felt like strangers to each other. It is normal. Every relationship must be a work in progress, day in, day out. There were many challenges along the way, but for me, keeping the marriage intact no matter what happens is a must, because of our children. Since his death until now, things have not completely sunk in to my inner core yet.  The journey of widowhood is a path that brings forth a range of emotions, challenges, and transformations. There are times when I feel very down and lonely, imagining of a happy married life with someone who is on the same page with me, with same wavelengths, or at least, same love for life, peace and harmony.  As I see some ordinary women with their own individual weaknesses, the...

Happiness Checklist: Are You Happy?

They say that happiness is in the mind; it is a state of the mind that you can control. Despite all the odds, if you can control your mind, you can tell yourself that you are happy. Is that really so? What if you keep telling yourself, mind-setting yourself, "You are happy," but in truth and in fact you are not? To determine if you are happy in your life, consider the following checklist: 1. Emotional Well-being Are you generally content and optimistic about your future? Do you experience frequent positive emotions, such as joy and gratitude? Can you manage and cope with stress and negative emotions effectively? 2.  Positive Relationships Do you have strong connections with family and friends? Are you able to maintain healthy relationships and resolve conflicts? Do you feel supported and loved by the people around you? 3.  Sense of Accomplishment Are you pursuing goals that are meaningful to you? Do you feel a sense of achievement and pride in your accomplishments? Are ...

"It's Sad to Belong": A Timeless Ballad of Love and Longing

My friend, a 58-year-old engineer, holds "It's Sad to Belong"*   as one of his favorite songs, next to "Somewhere in Time".  Life has unfolded a remarkable journey for him. He has four (4) children from his first marriage, a chapter marked by his wife's decision to leave them for her college classmate, leading to their (wife and new spouse's) relocation to the United States. However, destiny had other plans. Another remarkable woman entered his life. They got married. She filled the void in his heart and nurtured his children, who have since grown into successful individuals. As life's story continued to unfold, he encountered yet another woman, whom he believes to be his soulmate, bringing a new chapter of love and companionship into his life for some time. Silently he wished he had a travel machine to start a new life with her and live happily ever after. Eden Ahbez said,  The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in...

The Wisdom of Moderation: Avoid Biting Off More Than You Can Chew

In our fast-paced and goal-oriented world, the pursuit of success often leads us to take on more than we can handle. We're told to dream big, reach for the stars and take the challenges that come our way. While ambition and passion are undeniably valuable assets, there's an age-old saying that reminds us of the importance of balance: "Avoid biting off more than you can chew." This timeless wisdom carries profound lessons for both our personal and professional lives. The Allure of Ambition Ambition is a powerful force that propels us toward our dreams and aspirations. It ignites the fire of passion within us, urging us to set audacious goals and strive for excellence. This drive is what has fueled countless success stories throughout history, inspiring individuals to accomplish extraordinary feats. The Pitfall of Overcommitment However, there's a fine line between ambition and overcommitment.  Charlie Munger said, Look at this generation, with all of its electron...

Avocado , the beloved green fruit, holds a special place in our hearts and diets. This remarkable superfood, often hailed for its nutrient-rich composition, offers a myriad of health benefits. 1.  Nutrient-rich : Avocado is packed with essential nutrients. It's a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate, potassium, and copper. 2.  Healthy fats : Avocado is known for its high content of healthy monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid. The Art and Science of Fontology: Unveiling the Typography Mystique

I passionately m arvel at the kaleidoscope of fonts because they are not just letters; they are gateways to emotions, vehicles of meaning, and conduits of creativity.  Each font possesses a distinct personality, inviting us to explore the myriad ways they can tell a story or shape an experience. This intriguing world, known as fontology , is a captivating blend of artistry and science, where fonts become the brushstrokes that paint the canvas of our written communication.  In the vast realm of design and communication, one often-overlooked element wields extraordinary power:  typography.  Where It Started: The Typographical Odyssey Fontology traces its origins back to the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th century. Gutenberg's innovation led to the creation of the first movable type, giving birth to an era of typography. Over time, fonts evolved from metal typefaces to digital forms, each carrying a unique historical and aesthe...

How to Choose the Right Self-Education Path to Own the Future

There are many impactful life coaches who impress me beyond words. Recently I joined some webinars hosted by Dean Graziosi and Tony Robbins, Tai Lopez, Vishen Lakhiani,  and Mary Morrisey . I have long wanted to enrol in their courses but I could not due to some priorities when it comes to financial resources. It is good that they shared their wisdom with some inspiring guest resources speakers for free, so it is indeed like sitting down in a university master class every session and feeling super, super blessed.  So they say it is not the matter of having no resource at all, if you are really interested, but of being not resourceful at all -- when they strongly motivate you to do something and get in right away!  If you can relate to me, and you are also confused whether to enrol in a course or not, or which one if you decide to, consider these to arrive at an informed decision:   1.  Content and Value Review the course curriculum and content outlin...
